Residential Renovation & Expansion
Houston, Texas | Gentry House Expansion & Renovation
In collaboration with Mary-Hollis Architecture, Local AR supported the expansion and renovation of the Gentry House, a historic district residence in Houston that had been deemed uninhabitable and unsafe for public access. The project began with detailed as-built documentation using scanning and laser measurement tools, forming the foundation for a complete redesign and code-compliant construction set under City of Houston standards.
The renovation included reframing with shiplap, drywall, and insulation, along with a redistribution of the interior layout to improve functionality. A new bedroom, bathroom, and balcony were added in harmony with the existing shingle roof and architectural character of the home.
Following the main renovation, Local AR also designed a backhouse addition, extending the property’s livable space while maintaining compatibility with the historic context. Together, the improvements transformed the residence from a deteriorated structure into a safe, livable home that respects its neighborhood setting.
